Harold Heiman, 90, of La Porte, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at 9:35 a.m. at La Porte Hospital.
He was born Sept. 1, 1917 in Hammond, IN.
Mr. Heiman had worked at the Athletic Shoe Co. in La Porte and then had 45 years of service at Door Village School and La Porte School Corporation as a custodian and school bus driver. He was a graduate of Hanna High School and a member of Door Village United Methodist Church.
Harold married Wilma Inman who preceded him in death in 1983. He then married Averill Gribble who survives. They were married for 22 years.
Also surviving are one son, Gary (Ruby) Heiman of Middlebury, Ind.; one son-in-law, Wes (Carol) Kessler of La Porte; three grandsons, Steven Lee (Kim) Kessler of Scottsdale, Ariz., Michael Jon Kessler of Washington D.C., and Travis (Melissa) Heiman of White Pigeon, Mich.; one granddaughter, Samantha (Jerry) Baltes of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one great-granddaughter, Alicen Baltes; one great-grandson, Jack Michael Baltes; one stepsister, Rachel Tatman; six stepchildren, Carol Hudson of La Porte, Gail Munoz of Monrovia, Calif., Allan (Ruth) Gribble of Black Mountain, N.C., Joyce (Tom) Nablo of Union Mills, Dan (Karen) Gribble of Hebron, Margaret James of Puryear, Tenn.; and numerous step grand,great and great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wilma Heiman and one daughter, Carol Ann Kessler.
The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Door Village United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Jones officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home, La Porte, and Monday from 9 a.m. until the service at the church. Burial will be in the Door Village Cemetery following the service.
