Herbert Alvie Colston 78 of LaPorte, IN, after a long illness, went home to our Lord on January 21, 2011 at the LaPorte Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Herbert began life's journey on February 28, 1932 in Giles County, Tennessee, born to the now deceased Cullen & Elizabeth (Henderson) Colston. In 1952 as a young man he enlisted in The United State Army where he served two years as a radio operator and repairman.
After the army, Herbert traveled to Northern Indiana and found employment at Kingsley Furniture Company. He worked there until his retirement in 1993. On July 1, 1955 he married Marlene D. Wiltfong who survives. Together they had three daughters. The oldest daughter is Lauretta Hambey and husband James of Metamora, Michigan. The 2nd daughter is Linda Williamson and husband Chris of Walkerton, Indiana. The 3rd daughter is Kathryn Stamper and husband Kelly of North Judson, IN. Their son is Dr. Herbert L Colston, PhD and wife Brigitte of Racine, WI. Herbert and Marlene proudly boasted of their seven grandchildren, James, Jessica, Zachary, Anna, Rachelle, Justin, and Morgan and of their great grandchild, Cameron. Recently they were told another great grandchild would be added to their list.
Preceding Herbert in death were his parents, several brothers & sisters, & numerous close friends.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Thurs., Jan. 27, 2011 at the Cutler Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Thursday with Rev. Ron Devenport officiating. Military honors will be conducted by La Porte Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mill Creek.
