Herbert Edward Huenecke, 88, of La Porte, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Miller Health and Rehab La Porte.
Herbert was born in La Porte, IN, on January 13, 1928 to Arthur Gustav and Minnie (Carsten) Huenecke.
On June 5, 1954 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, he married Eleanor Mae Fritzen who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Carla (Ronald) Kemiel of La Porte, Karen (Ted) Pulaski of La Porte, Kristine Huenecke of La Porte, Kathi Huenecke of La Porte, and Kevin (Amy) Huenecke of New Carlisle; 8 grandchildren, Tara, Cameron, Nathaniel, Katrina, Jeralyn, Jasen, Kody,and Miya; great-granddaughter, Ellie; 2 sisters, Shirley Shortt of La Porte and Jeri Rose of La Porte; several nieces, nephews, and his 2 dogs, Willy and Maxwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur and Gerhard; and sister, Jeanette.
Herbert was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and the VFW Post #1130. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He loved woodworking and word search books.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Ronald Brauer officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 9 AM until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place following the service at Rolling Prairie Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
