Hugh M. “Morey” Heatherson, age 91, of La Porte, IN passed away at 10:45 AM on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Brentwood Assisted Living in La Porte. He was born on March 14, 1921 to Maurice P. and Mary (Daly) Heatherson in La Porte, IN. On April 27, 1946 he married Bette Brady.

He is survived by his bride of 66 years, Bette Heatherson of La Porte; three children, Danny (Patricia) Heatherson of Queen Creek, AZ, Linda MeGee and Mary (Barry) Aftowski both of La Porte, IN; 7 grandchildren, Jackie, Danny Jr., Michele, Valerie, Eric, Scott, and Tonya; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Micky Borg of La Porte and LaVerene McQuiston of Scottsdale, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jason Aftowski; and one brother, Glenn “Pete” Heatherson.

Morey served his country honorably during WWII in the United States Army. He went on to serve his community as a fireman served as the Captain of the La Porte City Fire Department until he retired. He also worked at the Pepsi Cola Company for over forty years. Over the years he was very involved in the community. Morey was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and American Legion Post #83 where he had served as commander. He was also a member of VFW Post #1130 and the CBI organization.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in La Porte with Father Dennis Teles officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday May 15, 2012 from 4-7 PM at Cutler Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to VNA Hospice of La Porte.
