Irene D. Swanson, 87, LaPorte, died at noon Monday (Dec. 22, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, LaPorte, with the Rev. Laura Altman officiating. Burial is in Carmel Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, and 10 a.m. until the service Monday at the church.
She was born May 13, 1916, in LaPorte, to Edward A. and Laura M. (Gropp) Dahl. On Dec. 8, 1945, in the Bethany Lutheran Church parsonage, she married Paul W. Swanson, who died Sept. 5, 2002.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Dan) Swanson Lounsberry, Littleton, Colo., and Laura M. Swanson, Raleigh, N.C.; one son, Gordon (Teri) P. Swanson, San Marco, Calif.; one sister, Thelma (Harold) Oman, Mena, Ariz.; and three grandchildren, Derek (Stayce) Swanson Lounsberry, Des Moines, Iowa, Sara Swanson Lounsberry, Denver, Colo., and Tyson Murray, Denver.
Mrs. Swanson was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she served as the Mary Circle leader and Lutheran Church Women president. She was a past president of Riley Elementary School PTA.
