Isabell June Stassen, 90, of La Porte, passed away on January 7, 2014 at Golden Living Center Fountainview.
She was born in La Porte, Indiana, on May 26, 1923 to Gerhart and Hannah (Pohl) Stassen.
Isabell is survived by her brother, Laverne A. Stassen of Louisville, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Elmer Stassen, Mayburn Stassen, Raymond Stassen; and her sisters, Adeline Gruner, and Beulah Crowley.
in 1927 Isabell moved to La Porte with her family and became a lifelong resident. She graduated from La Porte High School in 1941. Isabell attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and Taylor University. She worked many different types of jobs including, Kellings Shoe Store, Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing, Whirlpool Corporation, The Bendix Corporation in South Bend, La Porte Herald Argus, La Porte Hospital, Yacht Club, Modine, and Westville Correctional Center.
She was charter member of Baptist Missionary Church, and served as the organist, and soloist from 1948-1996. She was president, vice president, secretary, and tour director of the La Porte Camera and Travel Club; Class Historian for the La Porte High Class of 1941; she sang in La Porte Symphony Choral Group, mentored in Prison Fellowship, Volunteered at Fountainview Terrace, taught Bible Study classes and groups. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she also served as organist and pianist.
A time of visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday January 22, 2014 at the Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1p.m. on Thursday January 23, 2014 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Kim Landrum officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, LaCrosse, Indiana.
