Jack Brooks, 76, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 9:35 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Fountainview Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, at Cutler Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Westville Cemetery.
Jack was born March 22, 1929, in LaPorte, Indiana to Lawrence E. & Mildred L. (Glancy) Brooks.
He is survived by niece Linda Kmitta of LaPorte; nephew Larry Brooks of LaPorte; 2 great-nephews; a great-niece; and sister-in-law Jacqueline Brooks of LaPorte.
His parents and a brother, Edward L. Brooks, preceded him in death.
Jack had been a high school and junior high school teacher for 15 years. He had also been a copy editor and news librarian for the LaPorte Herald Argus for 6 years.
He was a 1948 graduate of LaPorte High School. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. degree in 1952 and a M.S. degree in 1956. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and the Wood Burn Guild at Indiana University. He was also a member of the National Geographic Society since 1949 and of the LaPorte First United Methodist Church. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
