Jack was born September 29, 1921 in La Porte, Indiana to Franklin Keeler and Anna Augusta Knoll Coffeen. Jack grew up in La Porte on 506 Linwood Ave and was the youngest of 5 boys and often referred to as Little Jackie. Jack graduated from La Porte High School in 1940. Franklin Coffeen was a contractor and most of the sons had their part in the family business but Jack had a special nitch for bricklaying and it became his passion. He often spoke of being on the job site with the boys until his passing. Jack was a 50 year member of the BAC Local #4. Jack was drafted into the U.S. Naval service and served from December 1943 to December 1945 as a third class Radar man. Jack spent his retirement out at Cambridge Square apartments where he made very close friends with the other residents, staff and much loved feeding the squirrels and raccoons. Not only did Jack work hard but he played hard as well. He often made the circuit of the taverns back in his day and had plentiful stories of all the pranks and late, long nights with the "Good ol' boys club". He definitely had a way with his demeanor and words that would draw people into him. So, to all the boys wherever you may be "drink one in honor of Jack Dale Coffeen, one of the most intelligent, disciplined men you will ever know". He will be missed but we will be with him again one day.
