Jack L. Beck

Jack L. Beck, 83, of La Porte passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Settlers House.

Jack was born in Muncie, Indiana, on January 29, 1935, and raised in the Delaware County Children’s Home until going to live at the age of 12 with his foster parents, Leon and Rachel (Bowell) Scott.  He graduated from Daleville High School in 1953, earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1957, and his Master’s degree in 1960 from Ball State University.

On August 20, 1960, in Hebron, IN, he married Heather McNeill who survives.  Also surviving are his beloved children, Cynthia (Kenneth) Moe of Westfield, IN, Kevin (Amy Price) Beck of Hastings, MI, Craig (Mindy Walters) Beck of Ridgecrest, CA, and Doug (Melissa Langford) Beck of La Porte; 9 grandchildren, Emily, Erin, and Ethan Moe, Ian, Peter, and Kirby Beck, Sarah, Tom, and Anna Beck; foster brother, David Scott of Prineville, OR; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was a retired teacher of 33 years and Athletic Director at Kesling Middle School for 20 years.  He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of La Porte and served as an Elder and as a member of numerous church committees. Jack enjoyed woodworking and experienced great joy in creating the cross for the Presbyterian Church sanctuary.  He was also an avid world traveler and sports enthusiast.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1pm (CT) on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Presbyterian Church of La Porte with Rev. Dr. Sally Wicks officiating.  Internment will follow at the columbarium.

A time of visitation will be held from 12 noon (CT) until the time of the church service.
