James W. "Bill" Carr, 88 years old of New Carlisle, IN, died at 11:00 P.M., Friday, July 2, 2010 at his home following a long period of declining strength and health. For the last 20 years, he fought courageously against cancer and heart related illnesses. While we will always love and miss our Husband, Dad and Papa, the family rejoices in the knowledge that he is forever at home with our Lord and Savior.
He was born June 8, 1922 to the late Webster R. and Inez (Wykoff) Carr and has been a lifelong resident of New Carlisle, Indiana. On Valentine's Day of 1948, in New Carlisle, he was married to Leah M. White.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leah; eight children, James A. (Debra) Carr of La Grange, IN., David (Karen) Carr of Ontario, WI., Dale (Nancy) Carr of New Carlisle, Stephen (Ina) Carr of Galien, MI., Cheryl (Bill) Hagerman of Ontario, WI., Susan (Scott) Dobbs of Ontario, WI., Joseph Carr of Harbert, MI., and Kenneth (Tammie) Carr of New Carlisle; 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Annaveve Amen; two aunts, Ruth Robinson and Mary Clendenen all of New Carlisle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved daughter, Claudia Carr; brother, Joseph Carr; and sister, Virginia von Arx.
After graduating New Carlisle High School in 1940, he joined the Army and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Bill retired from Lenick's in 1984 after working there 20 years. He was a long term member of the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church. He loved basketball and was a avid gardener and could be found there most days - spring, summer and fall.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 5, 2010 at the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church from 4-8:00 P.M. E.S.T. and from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 E.S.T. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010.
Services will be held at the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church at 11:00 A.M. E.S.T., Tueday, July 6, 2010.
Interment will follow in the New Carlisle Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
