James "Jim" Byron Midlar, 73, of La Porte, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at his home.
Jim was born in La Porte, IN, on September 29, 1943 to James G. and Rae B. (Slocum) Midlar.
On September 27, 1969 in Bridgeman, MI, he married Judy Mae Shott who preceded him in death. Surviving are his beloved sisters, Margie Hakes of Kingsbury and Mariann Midlar of La Porte; brother, Jeffrey Midlar of Elizabethtown, KY; and special nieces, Amber (Ryan) Bailey of North Liberty and Michelle (Kyle) Kampf of Granger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judy Midlar.
Jim served honorably as an Airborne Ranger in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking, especially with cedar.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM (CST) on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Interment will take place at Salem Cemetery following the service.
A time of visitation will be held from 4-8 PM (CST) on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 AM (CST) until the time of the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
