James R. Riedstra, 68, Rolling Prairie, died at 12 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 25, 2004) of natural causes at the St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Tripp officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte.
He was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Gary to Richard and Elizabeth (Homans) Riedstra. On Feb. 25, 1956, in Oak Lawn, Ill., he married Ann C. Lenters, who survives.
Survivors also include one daughter, Kathleen (Paul) McGowan, Sandwich, Ill.; three sons, James (Laura) Riedstra, New Lenox, Ill., Ronald (Alice) Riedstra and Bob (Tracey) Riedstra, both of LaPorte; six grandchildren, Ryan Northrop, Valerie, Matthew, James II and Jennifer Riedstra and Kelly Bolton; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Riedstra, California; and three sisters, Janet Witter, Mesa, Ariz., Judy Hoecker, Hot Springs, Ark., and Audrey Thatcher, Keller, Texas.
His sister, Carol, preceded him in death.
Mr. Riedstra worked at Concrete Technologies, and was a self-employed bricklayer and mason. He belonged to the Polish Falcons Nest 564 in LaPorte. Mr. Riedstra loved his family and enjoyed listening to blues music.
