James "Jim" O. Smock, 64, of Manteno, Ill. passed away on July 28, 2013 at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Ill.
He was born in Chicago, Ill. on Nov. 28, 1948 to Waldo and Ann H. Laub Smock.
Surviving are his daughter, Jessica (Dustin) Wright of La Porte, Ind.; two sons, Samuel (Karen) Allen of Ariz. and James (Samantha) Allen of Tenn.; six grandchildren, Lillian, Brittany, Samuel, Garret, Savanna, and William; his father, Waldo Smock; three brothers, Walter, Ricky, and Jerry; and four sisters, Dorothy, June, Teresa, and Mary Ann.
He was preceded in death by his mother; two sisters, Ann and Shirley; and his twin infant brother and sister.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1968-1972 during the Vietnam Conflict. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the Sharp Shooter Medal and the Expert Badge (M-16 Rifle).
Jim worked as a truck driver for 25 years before retiring. He liked military model building and toy and currency collecting.
Cremation has been entrusted to Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Private family services will be held at a later date.
