Jeanette E. Darby, 87 years old of LaPorte, IN, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.

She was born on December 5, 1923 in LaPorte, IN, daughter of William A. and Anna (Geise) Vollrath.

She was married on December 9, 1943 in LaPorte to William C. Darby who preceded her in death on September 6, 1990.

She was a long time member of the St. John Walther League Choir and was well known as a soloist in LaPorte. Many remember her performances of O Holy Night. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a loyal Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving are her daughters: Carol (Art) Kemp of LaPorte, Pam (Woodie) Spencer of Beverly Shores and son: Grant (Dianne) Darby of LaPorte; grandchildren: Matthew (Amy S.) Kemp, Amy Kemp, Jenifer Darby, Emily (Nick) Maffeo, Derek (Miki) Darby, Laura Darby, Jessica Darby; 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and 10 brothers and sisters.

A time of visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Cutler Funeral Home and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, LaPorte, IN.

There will be a Celebration of Life service held at
10:00 A.M. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, LaPorte, IN. with Rev. Ronald Brauer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.

Contributions may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church Music Fund, 111 Kingsbury Ave, LaPorte, IN 46350.
