Jeffrey Charles Holtz, 54, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on June 22nd 2016 surrounded by his family at Lund Family Hospice of the Valley in Gilbert, AZ.
He was born on October 19th 1961 to Lucille and Ralph Holtz in LaPorte, IN. He held the county record for being the largest baby weighing 13 pounds, 10 ounces.
He was married in 1986 in Clearwater, FL to Cynthia Watterson of LaPorte, IN. They celebrated 30 wonderful years together before his passing.
From this union, they raised three beautiful children. In 1997, they moved to Phoenix, AZ where he happily lived out the rest of his life.
Jeff played baseball for the LaPorte Slicers and went on to play competitive baseball through college. He loved hiking the mountains in the Southwest, classical music, smoking cigars, reading thousands of American history novels and he had a passion for genealogy research. He will be greatly missed in his role as husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was deeply loved by his grandchildren and was the kind of grandpa that the children would run to first in a crowd.
Preceding him in death was his mother in September of 1992, father in May of 1994, sister Mary in November of 2012, and sister Sally in January of 2015.
Surviving him is his wife Cynthia Holtz of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Bethany Holtz of Scottsdale, AZ, daughter Julia (Franklin) Hahn of Granger, IN, son Andrew (Vera) Dobbs of Sausalito, CA and his 4 granddaughters Anna, Haleigh, Emilee, and Leah Hahn of Granger, IN. Also, he is survived by his eight sisters, Marleen Alsfasser of South Bend, IN, Judy Gearhart of Hamlet, IN, Cherie (Jerry) Hoover of Hanna, Karin (Jim) Carney of Nappanee, IN, Deb Holtz of Chesterton, IN, Sue Caddo of LaPorte, Cathy (Mark) Rogers of Belleville, IL, Cindy Eichelberg of Westville; and brother, Ralph “Buz” (Tina) Holtz of Valparaiso.
A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 10 AM (EST) (9 AM CST) on Saturday, July 2nd 2016 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd., Granger, IN. Father Schooler will be officiating. Burial will follow at Porter Rea Cemetery in Potato Creek State Park, North Liberty, IN.
A time of visitation will be from 3- 8 pm (CST) (4-9 PM EST) on Friday, July 1st 2016 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2900 Monroe St., La Porte, IN. Visitation will also take place from 9 AM (EST) (8 AM CST) until the time of the Mass on Saturday at the church.
