Jerry C. Burgess, 73, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2004 at LaPorte Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at the Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Dan McDonald Officiating. Visitation is from 4:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday and on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Cremation will follow the service.
Jerry was born on December 11, 1930, in Newport, Arkansas to Chock C. and Alva (Davis) Burgess. On May 22, 1954, in Jackson, Michigan, he married Helen M. Cobb, who survives.
Also surviving are daughters Deb Burgess, Mishawaka, IN, Pamela (Danny) Bell and Linda L. Bell, both of LaPorte, IN; son, Jerry (Alyse) Bell, LaPorte, IN; and grandchildren, Shelrae, Tony, Heather Ann, Brittany and Austin.
Preceding him in death was a son, Steve Bell, a sister, a brother and his parents.
He had been plant manager at Wirecraft Corporation for over 30 years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a master sergeant and received a service medal with a bronze star and the Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post #83 and the Elks Lodge. He loved his family. He also loved the outdoors and fishing.
