Joe D. Brush, age 85, of La Porte, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at his home.
Joe was born in Robinson, IL, on September 9, 1929 to David and Alta (Smith) Brush.
On May 26, 1956, he married Helen Moehlman who preceded him in death on May 6, 1998. Surviving are his beloved children, Martha (Ted) Okrzesik of La Porte and Joanne (Joseph) Smiddie-Brush of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Shannon M. (Matthew) Collins of Porter, IN, Matthew J. Okrzesik of La Porte; great-granddaughter, Lynn M. Collins of Porter, IN; and brothers, Orville Brush of Florida and Ernie Brush of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; his beloved friend, Willetta Butcher; and his siblings, Bernerd, Fern, Mervin, Eva, Martha, Harold, and Harlan.
Joe performed maintenance for St. John's Lutheran Church for 21 years from 1974-1995. He was a U.S. Army Corporal and served in the Korean war. He was very proud that both grandchildren, Shannon and Matthew, served their country in the military.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 8 pm on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 and from 10 am until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
