John C. Arndt, 76 years old of Wanatah, IN. passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 in VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso, IN.
He worked as an engineer at Allis Chalmers in Harvey, IL. and also Navistar Corporation in Indianapolis.
John enjoyed boating on Lake Michigan for 38 years which included private fishing charters for 10 years. During his boating experiences he saved four stranded boaters during a storm on Lake Michigan and received a US Coast Guard Citation.
He also loved his animals and the horses he shared with his wife. Enjoyed golf, bowling and especially being apart of his grandchildren's sporting events.
He was born June 18, 1935 in Michigan city, IN. , Son of the late John Frank & Hattie (Schmuhl) Arndt.
He married Darlene Shuta on May 26, 1956 in La Porte who survives, also surviving a daughter; Laura Green of La Porte, 2 grandchildren; Andrew and Kate Brenda both of La Porte, Sisters; Dolores (Leonard) Grazian and Mary Ann Salem, 4 sisters in law and brothers in law; Lorellie (Allen) Grott of Sun City, AZ., Arlene Phillips of La Porte, Melody (George) Austin of Westville, IN. & Carol (Jerry) Ford of La Porte, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received at the Cutler Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM Tuesday Nov. 29, 2011 with a celebration of Life Service at 1:00 PM with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating.
A Private Burial will take place at a later time.
