John Henry Bradley, 90, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Brentwood.
John was born in La Porte, IN, on October 27, 1925 to James Frederick and Avelina (Kitching) Bradley. He grew up in La Porte and graduated from La Porte High School in 1944. However in June 1943, he enrolled at Purdue University for 2 semesters and then was assigned to the 63rd infantry division where he saw action in France during the Rhineland and Ardennes-Alsace Campaigns for which he was awarded a 2 Bronze Stars. After being injured, he was honorably discharged from the Army in August 1945. He then re-entered Purdue University and graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree.
In 1954, he married Helen Wilcox, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert F. Wilcox. They had two sons, Frederick Wilcox Bradley and Christopher Henry Bradley.
During his business career, he worked for several companies; first as a Traffic Manager for the National Home Corporation in Lafayette, IN; Sales Administration at Berkel; and engineering related work at Allis Chalmers and Whirlpool in La Porte. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he served as a vestryman and many other ways. He was involved in many community activities as an active member or supporter. These included, Jaycees, Boy Scouts, Community Concepts, Kiwanis, Little Theatre, Elks Lodge #396, La Porte County Mental Health, American Legion Post #83, Ruth Sabin Home Trustee, LP City Historical Society, and Beech Wood Senior Men's Club. He enjoyed studying history, gardening, golf, and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Bradley of La Porte; sons, Frederick (Kim) and Christopher (Jane) Bradley; and granddaughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth Bradley.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, James F. Bradley, Jr. and George Kitching Bradley.
A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Graveside Service will take place at 11 AM on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Pine Lake Cemetery with full military honors.
