John Hodowal

John "Jack" William Hodowal, 85, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Michigan City.

John was born on July 3, 1930 in Chicago, IL to John William and Margret (Crowe) Hodowal.

On December 31, 1971, he married Joan Russell who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Patricia (Marc) Schoeneich of Leesburg, FL, Susan (Kevin) Handley of Roswell, GA, Julie (Chris) Woerdehoff of St. Joseph, MI, and Robert (Dean Urban) Russell of La Porte, IN; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents as well as aunts and uncles.

Jack graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago, IL. He served in the US Navy Fleet Air Wing Anti Sub Warfare from 1949-1953 as an Aviation Electronics Instructor. After his time of service, he worked at US Steel in the wire rope division. Then he came to Michigan City where he worked at Sanlo Manufacturing as their General Manager. Jack also owned and operated Tuholski Seed & Feed and later retired from Performance Package in Michigan City. During retirement, he worked for Cutler Funeral Home. He was a member of Saint Mary of the Angels Anglican Church. Jack enjoyed bowling and walking his dog, Boomer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 pm on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Officiating are the most reverent Bishop Lawrence L. Shaver and Vin. Franklin D. Endres. Full military honors will be presented. Cremation has taken place and burial will be held at a later time in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo, MI.

A time of visitation will be from 1 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
