John William Otto

John William Otto, 76, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Northwest Health - La Porte, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on April 4, 1945 in Gary, IN, to William and Linda (Ozment) Otto.

On April 2, 1977 in Mill Creek, IN, he married Vanasa White, who survives.  Also surviving are his daughter, Mollie (Ryan) Hawkins of Watkinsville, GA; 2 grandchildren, Brady and Carter; brother, Tom (Bonnie) Otto of Lafayette; brothers-in-law, Hirian Wiltfong and Harlan (Nancy) Wiltfong; sisters-in-law, Darla (Tom) Schroeder and Pamela (Larry) Schmalfeldt; and nieces, Jennifer (Warren) Lahr of Lafayette, Jenny Gidcomb of Fayetteville, TN and Tara (Tony) Lemus of New Palestine, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1967-1969.  His last duty assignment was abroad the USS Coral Sea.  John received numerous decorations, medals, and badges including the NDSM, VSM (1), VCM, and NUCR.

John was a casting expert for many years.  He enjoyed reading and fishing.  More than anything, John enjoyed spending time with his family.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Mill Creek Baptist Church, 8762 E. 200 S., Mill Creek, IN 46365, in honor of John.
