John R. Scott, 82, LaPorte, formerly of Devon Springs, Fla., died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 26, 2003) at Countryside Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, LaPorte.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cutler Funeral Home, 2900 Monroe St., LaPorte, with the Rev. Hugh Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service.
Mr. Scott was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Vermillion County, Ill., to Robert J. and Florence (Carter) Scott. He married Audrey C. Lamb, who died Sept. 27, 1991. On Aug. 7, 1994, in LaPorte, he married Lois Bluhm, who died Oct. 20, 1998.
Survivors include one daughter, Janis R. (Phil) Thornburg, LaPorte; one son, Robert J. Scott, Fish Lake; four grandchildren, Ronald Scott, Jamie Spence, Lisa Menke and Angela Reaves; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James Scott.
Mr. Scott was an officer at the Indiana State Prison, retiring in 1986.
He was a former member of Door Village Lions Club, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer in Florida.
