John Van Strien, 90 years old of La Porte, IN, died at 1:22 AM Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Golden Living Center Fountainview, La Porte.
He was born July 20, 1920 in Newburg, N.Y., son of John and Cornelia (Bouma) Van Strien.
John married Frances Newman Lilley on February 20, 1946 in West Minister, MD. They settled in La Porte. Frances passed in 1983.
As a UAW member he worked at Allis Chalmers for 14 years and at Whirlpool Corporation for 26 years.
Surviving are one brother, David (Karen), Van Strien Petersboro, NH; one step-son, Phillip Lilley, Glendale, AZ, one step-daughter Jane Davies Dillsboro, IN; two grandchildren Wayne Lilley Sumter, NC; and Lisa (Brad) Helmken, La Porte, IN, five great grandchildren Nicholas King, Stephanie King, Luke Helmken, Brandon Helmken, and Katelin Helmken, and one great great grandchild Kinleigh Langford all of La Porte, IN. Two nieces Vicky Chamberlain and Pamela Eckstein three nephews David Ammerman, Billy Ammerman and Jason Ammerman, all of the east coast areas.
He was preceded in death by his wife (Francis), parents and two sisters, Jean Ammerman, and Timmy Kinsey.
At his request there will be no funeral service. Cremation has been entrusted to Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte.
