John H. Wiencken, Sr., 81, of La Porte, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in La Porte Hospital.
A private family Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. A private burial will follow in the Salem Chapel Cemetery in La Porte, where the La Porte Honor Guard will present the American Flag. There will be a time of public visitation with the family from 6-8:00 P.M., Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Funeral Home.
John was born July 19, 1927 in Valparaiso, IN to the late John H. & Agnes (Matt) Wiencken. He was married on October 18, 1958 in Michigan City, IN to LouAnn Kapp who survives.
John was a loving father to his children; Michael (Karen) Boatright of La Porte, Christopher (Christine) Wiencken of La Porte, Susan (Charlie) Sparks of Kokomo, IN., Cindy Logan of La Porte, Janet (Scott) Lee of La Porte, John H. Wiencken, Jr. of La Porte, 9 Grandchildren; Michael Jr., Nathan, Clinton, Adam, Melissa, Robert, Ryan, Jeremy, & Jonathon, 3 step Grandchildren; Stacy, Kelly, and Jacob, 9 Gt. Grandchildren, 1 Sister; Evelyn Sacks of Dunedin, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law; Jerry Logan, 3 Uncles & 3 Aunts
John retired from Allis Chalmers and the La Porte Community School Corporation, and also worked at American Rubber in La Porte. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II and Past Commander of American Legion Post #83. He was a former member of the V.F.W., P.R.C.U., and Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps. John was an avid bowler, and loved golfing and fishing.
