After a long and bravely fought battle, John (Jack) A. Wilczynski, 58, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born on July 25, 1960 in Gary, IN, to John and Helen (Lissy) Wilczynski.
On June 30, 1979, he married his love and best friend, Lora Glancy, who survives. He was an exceptional (and sometimes “emphatic”) father to his sons, Brendan (Nicole) Wilczynski of La Porte and Donovan (Kayla) Wilczynski of Niles, MI, who survive; he was “Papa” to his five treasured grandmunchkins, Wyatt, Kaden, Riley, Mica, and Westley. He was also a loving brother and friend to his two surviving sisters, Sandi Winquist of Valparaiso and Marlene Magyar of Phoenix, AZ, his "baby sister" (in-law) Lisa Glancy and his brother-in-law, Edward Binstock of Michigan City, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who became his chosen family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John (the original Papa) and Helen (Mimi); two sisters, Marla Pokorney and Lynann (Winnie) Binstock; and a much-loved grandchild, Baby Mango.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts, Carpenters Union Local #1485, and the Steelworkers Union Local #6787. Jack loved a good brew and a terrible pun. More than anything, he enjoyed the activities of his grandchildren tremendously.
Beyond these things, Jack was a man who always fought for what he believed to be honorable and right and stepped up to protect those who could not always fight for themselves.
In lieu of funeral services, a Celebration of Life Memorial get-together will be held June 15th from 3:00-7:00 pm at the La Porte VFW. All who attend are asked to bring a funny and/or touching story involving Jack.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family c/o Lora Wilczynski, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN 46350 to help cover medical expenses.
Condolences may be shared online at www.cutlercares.com.
