Joseph Mark Alinsky, 68, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, in La Porte, Indiana.
He was born July 8, 1947, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Joseph W. and Nancy Jane Alinsky. In 1973, he married Kristine Kovatch who survives in La Porte.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul J. Alinsky.
Joe graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington and began a long career in professional audio and computer technology. Starting as product manager for speaker systems at Crown International in Elkhart, Indiana, he was then recruited to become marketing manager at audio manufacturer RTR Industries in Canoga Park, California.
In 1982, Joe was founder and president of Indiana Computer Center in Michigan City Indiana, a computer and network provider. He retired in 2011 as manager of PNC Bank in Michigan City.
Joe enjoyed a lifelong love of music and was an accomplished saxophonist. He performed for more than twenty-five years with the Tom Milo Big Band. He also played for many years with the Northern Indiana Saxophone Quartet.
Joe was an instrument-rated licensed private pilot and shared his brother, Paul’s passion for flying. He also was certified in scuba diving. Joe was a past member of Rotary Club of Michigan City where he developed many valued friendships.
Joe is survived by his wife, Kris, who was his loving caregiver; sons, Mark Alinsky of Fort Wayne and Christopher Alinsky of Indianapolis; his brother, James Alinsky of Michigan City; and his sister, Nancy Dayle Bright of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. Also surviving are his aunt, Dolores Williams as well as nieces and nephews, Karin Haidos, Kristin O’Gara, Eric Seaberg, and Andrew P. Holt.
Cremation will take place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, Indiana who is handling the arrangements. There will be no visitation or services. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
