Joyce E. Peachie Keane, 69, LaPorte, died at 2:20 a.m. Friday (May 2, 2003) at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers.
A memorial service is at 5 p.m. Saturday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte. Cremation will take place. Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Keane was born March 9, 1934, in Aurora, Ill., to Roy H. and Clara (Aase) Devenney. Her mother survives in LaPorte. On June 30, 1956, in Aurora, she married Jack Keane, who died Dec. 12, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth K. Saxon, Orlando, Fla., and Traci Lewis, Centerville, Ind.; one son, Daniel J. Keane, LaPorte; and one grandson, Heath Saxon. She was preceded in death by one son.
Mrs. Keane was a self-employed commercial artist who also worked for Edward Jones Investments in Michigan City. She also was a private art instructor.
Mrs. Keane was a graduate of Aurora High School who attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago. She was a board member for the League of Women Voters, charter member and past president of the LaPorte County Parks Association, member of the Michigan City and New Buffalo yacht clubs, Area Artists Association, Northern LaPorte County Land and Homeowners Association and the LaPorte County Historical Steam Society.
She was well known for her LaPorte Chamber of Commerce Christmas ornaments, LaPorte Savings Bank Historical Building series, Heritage Print Stationary series and Native American portrait series. She also was the co-author of a cookbook.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Unity Foundation of LaPorte County for the League of Women Voters Education Fund or the LaPorte County Park Association.
