LaVon Eva (Lain) Hines

LaVon Eva Hines, 92, of La Porte, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, June 19, 2023.

LaVon was born in La Porte, IN, on October 19, 1930 to George and Edith (Williams) Lain.

On July 2, 1949, in La Porte, LaVon married Howard E. Curry. On June 12, 1975 in La Porte, she married Herbert Hines.  Surviving LaVon are her four children, John (Kathy) Curry of La Porte, Jerry Curry of La Porte, Susan (Dave) Lindgren of Avon, and Sandra (Stuart) Bangs of La Porte; 2 stepchildren,  Denny (Carol) Hines of LaCrosse, WI and Peggy (Frank) Fischer of Olympia, WA; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Howard Curry; Herbert Hines; two daughters-in-law, Christeen Curry and Judy Curry; three grandchildren; stepson, Jeffrey Hines; and five sisters.

LaVon began working at Whirlpool in 1965 and retired from there in 1995.  She was a faithful member, Elder, and Deacon of The Presbyterian Church in La Porte.  LaVon was also a member of the Indiana Pioneers and the Whirlpool Ladies Group.  She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 1 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church of La Porte with Rev. Jane Anabe officiating.

A time of visitation will be held from 12 - 1 p.m. on Friday at the church.  Inurnment will take place at The Presbyterian Church of La Porte Columbarium Path at a later date.
