LeahRae Harris, 58, of La Porte, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at her home.

LeahRae was born in Joliet, IL, on July 20, 1957 to LaVerne and Lois (Grant) Korell. On August 3, 1979 in La Porte, she married her loving husband and high school sweet heart, David Harris who survives in La Porte. They were blessed with many adventures during their 36 years of marriage. Also surviving are her beloved daughters, Abby (Brandon) Rose of La Porte and Katie (John) Hart of La Porte; grandchildren, Colin and Jocelyn Jones, as well as a grandson, Will Hart, who is due on Mother’s Day; her parents, LaVerne and Lois Korell of La Porte; father-in-law, Norm Harris of Indianapolis; sisters, Barbara (Roger) Ash of La Porte, Lynn (John) Pena of Olive Hill, KY; brother, Tom (Cathy) Korell of La Porte; sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Dale) Johnson of Sugarland, TX, Linda (Jim) Newell of Carmel, IN; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and mother-in-law, Joann Harris.

LeahRae was a 1975 graduate of La Porte High School and a 1979 graduate from Indiana State University. LeahRae was a second grade teacher at St. Joseph School for 1 year and then went on to become Owner/Director of Step Ahead School for 19 years and was blessed to be able to use her passion for teaching preschool children for 36 years. She also worked at Riley Elementary from 2010-2015. LeahRae and her husband attend First Church of God in La Porte. She loved traveling, reading, the beach, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. LeahRae's steadfast faith in the Lord, exuberant personality, beautiful smile, and her overall love of life was evident to all who knew her! She will be greatly missed.

A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM (CST) on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at La Porte First Church of God with her brother-in-law, Pastor Roger Ash officiating. A gathering with family and friends to remember and celebrate LeahRae will be held following the service in the gym at the church.
