Lena Gloria Butterworth, 70, Las Vegas, formerly of Mountain Home, Ark. died at 8:40 p.m. Friday (May 16, 2003) at Columbia Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pine Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. George M. Vrabely officiating.
There will be no visitation. Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, handled arrangements.
Mrs. Butterworth was born June 10, 1932, in Chicago, to Luigi Francesco and Teresina (Mollo) DiCianni. On June 29, 1968, in Hickory Hills, Ill., she married William E. Butterworth, who preceded her in death in 1995.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Steves, Tinley Park, Ill., Christine Kleber, Buffalo, Ind., and Carrie Collopy, Chicago Heights, Ill.; two sons, Steven Preattle, Tinely Park, and Victor Butterworth, Momence, Ill.; one sister, Luci Maricich-De Cero, Portage; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Butterworth was a legal secretary to former Illinois Governor Richard Ogilvie. She published a book in 1998 on poetry titled Words from the Heart, composed many songs, and played piano and organ.
Mrs. Butterworth graduated from Jones Commercial High School in Chicago with honors. She was a member of the National Poetry Society.
