Leo David Lambert, a loving, funny, and thoughtful young man from Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2023, at the tender age of 14. Born on July 15, 2009, in La Porte, Indiana, Leo was the cherished son of Thomas L. Lambert and Christine M. (Smith) Maddox.
Leo is survived by his parents, Thomas (Shannon Autry) Lambert of Michigan City and Christine (Richard Percifield Jr.) of Rolling Prairie; his siblings, Christopher Lambert of Michigan City, Ashley (Ronald) Mejia of Michigan City, Cameron Autry of Michigan City, and Leeanna Akes of Huntsville, AL; his adoring grandmother, Geraldine Lambert of Michigan City; four nephews; one niece; and special friends, Bill and Terri Smalley. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fredrick Lambert, Charles B. Smith, Jr., and Sandra Smith.
As a freshman at La Porte High School, Leo was a dedicated student with aspirations of becoming a psychologist, inspired by his older brother. He found joy in music, particularly singing and playing the cello and violin. He was an active member of the Singing Co. of La Porte County and the LPHS choir. Leo was known for his playful spirit, enjoying video games, and taking any opportunity to ride or drive, whether it be motorcycles, go-carts, cars, mopeds, golf carts, or even skidsteers. He was a Marvel movie fan and loved animals, especially his African Grey Parrot, dogs, and cats. Leo recently started his first job working at Frosty Boy Ice Cream Shop in Michigan City.
Leo was a volunteer at Pioneer Land, where he took great pleasure in participating in the 4-H fair and school tours, particularly the fourth-grade tours. He enjoyed attending the annual Holiday at the Pops, where he would share his large box of Little's Chocolates with those around him. His thoughtfulness and generosity brought smiles to many.
Fondly remembered by his family as a "goof ball," Leo was a caring individual who never held a grudge. He was always a friend to the underdog, and his warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. As the famous author, Mark Twain once said, "The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up." Leo lived this quote, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
