Leonard "Len" John Urban, 76, of La Porte, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Northwest Health - La Porte, surrounded by close family members.
Len was born on April 23, 1946 in Melrose Park, IL, to Richard and Emily Urban.
On September 13, 1969 in East Chicago, IN, he married Cecilia Ann Sobolewski, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Tammy (Tom) Myers of Terre Haute, IN and Adam Urban of La Porte; 2 grandchildren, Taylor and Trenton; 3 great-grandchildren, Paislee, Kynlee, and Jamison; one great-grandchild on the way; sisters, Carol (LeRoy) Stayley of AZ and Deloris Short of La Porte; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda (Jerry) Evans; brother, Richard Urban; and brother-in-law, Glen Short.
Len worked as a millwright for U.S. Tobacco and Local 1693. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. Len will be fondly remembered for his patriotism.
Known as "Snowflake" for his brilliant white hair, Len loved having fun, in a goofy sort of way, with his family. His humor could be smart, sarcastic, and even dark at times. Family holidays, especially those that included food, were at the top of Len's favorites list. In his early years, Len enjoyed fishing, but later grew into a homebody, especially spending time sitting around Adam's pond affectionately called "Lake Minnetonka".
