LeRoy Nathaniel Lewis, Jr.

LeRoy Nathaniel Lewis, Jr., 86, of Michigan City, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Franciscan Health Michigan City.

LeRoy was born on August 2, 1931 in Michigan City, IN, to LeRoy Nathaniel Sr. and Nellie Ellen (Hall) Lewis.

On December 5, 1954 in Chesterton, IN, he married Angeline "Angie" Wheeler who survives.  Also surviving are his beloved children, LeAnn (Randy) Miller of Quincy, IL, Timothy (Nicole) Lewis of Michigan City, and Robert (Lisa) Lewis of Michigan City; 12 grandchildren, Sarah (Shaun) Alexander, Stephanie (Tyler) Dickens and Abigail Miller, Taylor and Justin Lewis, Alison, Hanah, and Ryan Lewis, Alexandrea and Zachary Hogan, Jaymie and Jacob Pliskey; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dolores and Eugene; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents and siblings, Geraldine, Charles, Louise, Helen, Marian, Donald, Kenneth, and Raymond.

LeRoy was an US Army veteran having served in the Korean War.  He retired from US Steel in 1982.  After retirement, he worked part-time at Kabelin Ace Hardware repairing screens. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Fish and Game Club, Civil Defense, and the Ham Radio Club.  He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, camping with his family every summer, cleaning his cars, and working in his yard.  He was devoted to caring for his beloved dog, Chloe.  He dearly loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am (CDT) on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Entombment will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors.

A time of visitation will be held from 5 -8 pm (CDT) on Thursday, July 5, 2018 and from 10 am (CDT) until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
