Lewis Gene Pelis Sr., age 76, of Walkerton, passed away on September 17, 2013 at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born in La Porte, IN on March 8, 1937 the son of Fred and Margaret (Wells) Pelis.
On June 5, 1965 he married Virginia Lantero Pelis who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Lewis Gene Pelis Jr. of Mishawaka, IN and Virginia Pelis-Ryan of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, Jordon (Eric) LaFaucia of Princeton, IL, Jessica Pelis of Terre Haute, IN, Conner, Cheyenne, and Colton Pelis all of Mishawaka, IN, Jack and Tess Ryan both of Charlotte, NC; three great-grandchildren; and two siblings Janet (Bill) Crittenden of Parish, FL, and Ellen (Mitch) King of Eufaula, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Pelis.
Lewis served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1957-60. He retired in 2000 after working as a supervisor for four decades in the corrugated and steel industries. He attended the La Porte Missionary Church in La Porte. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and sports. Above all he loved spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the La Porte Missionary Church on October 1, 2013 at 11AM CST. Rev. Carl Galloway will officiate. Friends and family will be received from 10-11AM prior to the service.
