Lois Ruth Dawson, 95, of Kingsford Heights, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in La Porte
Lois was born on May 11, 1927 in Porterville, IL, to Eugene C. and Mary E. (Faught) Hills.
On September 22, 1945 in La Porte, IN, she married Forrest E. Dawson when he returned home from overseas after World War II. Forrest preceded her in death on February 22, 2003.
She is survived by her daughter, Barb (Rick) DeCamp of La Porte; son, Bob (Angi) Dawson of Union Mills; grandchildren, David (Shannon) Dawson of La Porte, Scott (Summer) Dawson of North Liberty, Jennifer (Patrick) Drewry of Indianapolis, Drew (Chrissy) Tibbs of Westville, Rebecca Tibbs of La Porte, and Courtney (Todd) Deutscher of La Porte; great-grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Violet, Justin, Dane, Jessica (Travis), Jordan, Hailey, Aliyah, Grady, Jordy, Reed, Makenzie, Levi, Kennedy, and Chandler; and 1 great, great-granddaughter, Mia.
In addition to her parents and husband, Forrest, Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Lingafelter; brother, Eugene Hills, Jr.; son-in-law, Rick DeCamp; and grandson, Jeffrey DeCamp.
Lois enjoyed serving as the Assistant Clerk Treasurer of Kingsford Heights for many years because she loved people. She was a member of the Kingsford Heights Zook-Farrington American Legion Post 434 Auxiliary. Previously, she was an officer in the Hoosier Boys Club as well as a Sunday School teacher for many years at the Wesleyan Church in Kingsford Heights.
She enjoyed going for her daily walks, reading, crocheting, and tending to her flowers. Family will forever remember the meals she lovingly prepared for every holiday.
Lois lived in the same house since 1948 and everyone knew her as Nana. She loved people and they loved her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Burial will follow at Kingsbury Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the DeCamp's Band of Brothers Fund, Unity Foundation of La Porte County, 422 Franklin St., Suite C, Michigan City, IN 46360.
