Lorella Eileen Schafer, 86, New Carlisle, formerly of LaPorte, died at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 17, 2003) at Hamilton Grove Communities, New Carlisle.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Cutler Funeral Home, with Dr. Howard Abbott officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 15, 1917, in LaPorte, to Herbert and Lura (Beemon) Freese. On June 16, 1938, in LaPorte, she married Charles M. Schafer, who died July 7, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Becky McCarthy and Jane Bishop, both of LaPorte; three granddaughters, Lisa Newlon, Amy Bluhm and Pilar Prus; one grandson, Nelson A. Blengeri; five great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.
Also preceding Mrs. Schafer in death were two brothers, Marvin and Warren Dean Freese.
Mrs. Schafer was a member of the First Baptist Church, Eastern Star and was a former member of People To People.
