Louis L. Solmos Jr., 84, LaPorte, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 10, 2003) at Fountainview Terrace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. George Vrabely officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Monday at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1919, in LaPorte, to Louis and Marie (Marhoffer) Solmos. On Aug. 17, 1942, he married Frieda Hapner, who died Nov. 14, 1984.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Rockford) Lorencz, North Judson, and Carol (Gary) Padgett, LaPorte; one son, Dennis (Velvet) Solmos, Hamlet; nine grandchildren, James (Annette) Fritzen, Darline (Jerry) Jarrett, Cheryl (Rick) Smith, Steven Lorencz, Millisa (Bill) Vance, Jamie (Jamie) Solmos, Jeniffer Solmos, Scott (Stacy) Padgett and Michael (Julie) Padgett; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia (William) Douglass, Valparaiso, Marie (Robert) Watts, Valparaiso, and Alice Speicher, Plymouth, Ind.; two brothers, Robert (Ruby) Solmos, Florida, and John (Marie) Solmos, Knox; and two sisters-in-law, Lee Doeling, Valparaiso, and Marie Ruth (Arley) Johnson, Florida.
Also preceding Mr. Solmos in death were one son, Charles; one brother, Walter; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and one grandson, Robert Lorencz.
Before retiring, Mr. Solmos was a member of Local 150 Engineers for 56 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and had also served for 18 month in the U.S. Navy.
