Louise Lanz, 96, of New Carlisle, Indiana and formerly of LaPorte, died at 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 6, at the LaPorte First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hadley officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home and at the church of Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Louise was born July 1, 1909, in Washington Township, IN to George and Nellie (Mills) Brown. On February 27, 1928, in LaPorte, she married Emil Paul Lanz who preceded her in death November 16, 1989.
Survivors include daughter Caroline Gangi of Cresskill, NJ; brother James R. Brown of Norwell, MA; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Sons James A. and Robert Lanz preceded her in death.
Louise was a cello teacher for 28 years, teaching for 2 years at Elston High School.
She attended Bethen Church and Holmes School, LaPorte High School and Mac Murray College. In 1923, she joined the LaPorte First United Methodist Church where she was a member and past leader of
the Martha Group, and member of the Home Builders Class and the Women's Chorus. She was past president of the Amateur Musical Club, past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, president of the Music Parents Club, and former member or the LaPorte Travel and Camera Club. She was a member of the Historical Club and honored by them as "Historian of the Year" and she was co-founder and charter member of the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra. She was a past member of the Inter Faith Choir and a member of the Community Orchestra of Michigan City. She was a piano judge for the Federation of Music Club.
