Lynn Shelby, 69 years old of La Porte, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in LaPorte Hospital.
He was born Thursday, June 6, 1940 in La Porte, Indiana, son of Elmer Paul and Margaret Hazel (Miller) Shelby.
Lynn graduated from La Porte High School in 1958.
He was a member of St. Joe Valley Street Rods, Founding Member of Maple City Street Cruisers, former member of La Porte FOP Lodge 46,
National Street Rod Association, Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Lynn was discharged from the U.S. Army on March 31, 1969.
He was a Patrolman with the La Porte City Police Dept. from Mar. 1970-July 1974, retired from La Porte Co. Sheriff's Dept. in July 2000 after 271/2 years, was the Sexton at St. Paul's Episcopal Church from 1988-1993 then worked in Maintenance at the LaPorte Presbyterian Church from 2000 until now.
Lynn married May 28, 1961 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church to Marilyn S. Heniser who survives. Also surviving a daughter, Beth Ann (Jeff) West of La Porte; granddaughter, Mackenzie Elizabeth West of LaPorte; sister, Jane (Victor) Bruno of Columbus, Ohio; and his mother, Margaret of La Porte.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends will be received from 3-8 P.M. , Thursday, July 30, at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte.
Services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Friday, July 31, 2009 at 10 am with Rev. Brian Grantz officiating.
Interment will follow in the LaPorte Presbyterian Church Columbarium.
