Makayla Peters

Makayla Marie Peters, 8 months old, of Michigan City, received her angel wings on Friday, April 29, 2016 at South Bend Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 26, 2015 in South Bend to Natasha Peters and Andre Aiken.

Makayla started her journey in South Bend Memorial NICU, weighing only 2lbs 15 oz. Her outcome was unknown, but our Kayla-Bean showed us how much strength and spunk one tiny baby could offer. Dr. White and so many caring nurses helped Makayla (and helped Gram and Aunt Sarah) through the ups and downs of the next few months. She encountered her next adventure up to the PICU where Gram and Aunt Sarah were trained on how to care for her at home finally. In February, Makayla slept her first night ever in a room that was not in a hospital setting. Her Gram has a room full of love and everything she could ever need just for her. Makayla really started to blossom and reach milestones during her short stay at home. Her journey was cut short and had to end back where it started at Memorial Hospital. Makayla's life was filled with love and hope, not just by her family, but by everyone who knew her story. Makayla enjoyed being held by her Gram and Aunt Sarah, musical light up crib toy, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and her lambie.

Makayla is survived by her parents, her guardians, Angela Peters "Gram" of Michigan City and Aunt Sarah Folino-Nowicki of New Buffalo, MI; papa, Tony Franich; great grandma, Lynn Folino; cousin, Jaxson Nowicki; maternal grandparents, Richard and Vanessa Peters. She was preceded in death by her sister, Amaya, brother, Alexander; great grandma, Lois Donoghue.

A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
