Margaret Mary Bauer Fountain, 74, of La Porte, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL.
Margaret was born on June 28, 1948, in Mishawaka, IN, to Burnett C. and Helene G. (Cryan) Bauer.
Surviving are her beloved children, Ann Marie Fountain of La Porte, Melinda Jean (Thomas Cumbow) Fountain of Granger, and Mark Thomas (Laura) Fountain of Palos Heights, IL; 5 deeply loved grandchildren, David, Margaret, Elizabeth, Eloise, and Henry; brothers, B. Patrick (Karen) Bauer and Matthew Bauer; sisters, Theresa Lopata, Barbara (Larry) Kowalewski, Bernadette Bauer, Mary Frances Griffin, and Brenda Bare; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elizabeth Ann (B.A.) Bauer; and her former spouse, Thomas Fountain.
Margaret graduated from Saint Joseph High School in South Bend, and earned her bachelor’s at Purdue University, and her Masters of Education degree at Indiana University, South Bend. She was a teacher for over twenty years, teaching special education students from elementary to high school.
Margaret was a devoted daughter, mother, and grandmother. She raised her three kids first on a farm near Reynolds, IN and then in the city of La Porte. Diligent and conscientious, she tirelessly cared for her family, looked after her aging parents, and organized holidays for her extended family. She spent as much time with her children and grandchildren as possible over the years, traveling to visit them across the country and the world. Margaret enjoyed traveling, singing, and reading to her grandchildren. She was a doting grandmother, and loved holding, hugging, and playing with her grandchildren, who adored her. She loved bluebirds, daffodils, and good movies. She enjoyed solving problems and restoring her over century-old home.
Margaret’s family is grateful to her sister, Mary Frances, who donated a kidney to Margaret and extended her life by many years. Her children are also grateful to family, friends, and neighbors who have been supportive during her illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022, at St. Peter Catholic Church, La Porte. Inurnment will take place at 1:00 p.m. CST/2:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
A time of visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the funeral home.
