Marian Eileen Passafume, age 79, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer that had lasted over eleven years. She was born on April 25, 1933 to Edwin L. & Gertrude (Heimlich) Scholz in La Porte. On September 25, 1955 she married Curtis L. Passafume Sr., he survives.
She is also survived by four children, Curtis L. (Jody) Passafume Jr., of LaPorte, Karen Sue (Edward) Topp of Crown Point, IN, Connie Eileen (C Jay) Murphy of Carmel, IN and Kathy "Kayde" Darnell of Fishers, IN; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gloria (Bob) Childress of La Porte. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edwin R Scholz.
Marian attended St. John's Lutheran School until 1947 and then graduated from LaPorte High School in 1951. She was a very hardworking and successful individual. She had worked for Bernacchi Greenhouses and later retired as a Main Line Agent from Farm Bureau Insurance where she had been named underwriter of the year. Marian had been a very dedicated member of St. John's Lutheran Church for decades where she had served as the first female trustee of the church, and sang in the Walther League Chorus for over 45 years.
As a very active member of the community she had also served as a PTL room mother, past officer of Tri Kappa, Delta Upsilon Chapter, past officer of the Tri Kappa Associate Chapter, and a past officer of the Beechwood Ladies 18 Hole Golf Club. She was also a past member of the Golf Hammock Country Club, volunteered at St. John's Lutheran and Faith Lutheran's thrift shops, sang in the choir at Faith Lutheran Church in Sebring, FL., and notably, recently amidst her battle with cancer was named the Ladies Club 2012 Champion and Most Improved Golfer for March 2012 at Golf Hammock Country Club. She will always be remembered as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in La Porte on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11 AM with Pastor Ronald Brauer officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 9 AM until the time of service. Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church Organ Fund, St. John's Lutheran School Scholarship Fund or to the Elevator Fund at Faith Lutheran Church in Sebring, FL.
