Martha E. Borg

January 22, 1910 — April 6, 2005

Martha Elizabeth Borg, 95, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at her home.

A private family service will be held at Pine Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Cutler Funeral Home.

Martha was born January 22, 1910, in Marion, Indiana to Charles and Hazel (Whitcraft) Duke. On May 28, 1937, in LaPorte, she married Bernard A. Borg, who preceded her in death June 23, 1995.

Survivors include daughters Marilyn Borg of Evanston, IL and Ruth Ann Russell of LaPorte; son Bernard Borg, Jr.; grandchildren Kristen & Stephen Borg and Patrick & Christian Russell; and half-sister Beverly Walden of Kokomo, IN.

A brother, William H. Duke and half-sisters Juanita Moore and Jean Stroup preceded her in death.

Martha had worked at Levine's Boston Store and Pelan Portrait Studio, both in LaPorte and had taught crafts at the LaPorte Recreation Department.

She had been active for many years in Girl Scouts. She had volunteered at the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum and upon her retirement was awarded a life membership in the Historical Society. She belonged to the Michigan City Art League and to the Isabel Taylor Invitational Egg Art Association. She was a former member of the Miriam Benedict Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Door Prairie Questers.

Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice or to the Michigan City Art League.
