Martin Mart W. Vollrath

November 10, 1916 — February 9, 2004

Martin Mart W. Vollrath, 87, LaPorte, died at 10:43 p.m. Monday (Feb. 9, 2004) at LaPorte Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, LaPorte, with Rev. David Young officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, and from 10 a.m. until the service Friday at the church.

He was born Nov. 10, 1916, in LaPorte, to William and Anna (Giese) Vollrath. On Nov. 12, 1937, in LaPorte, he married Eleonora A. Miller, who survives.

Survivors also include one son, Thomas M. (Vicky) Vollrath, McDonough, Ga.; two grandchildren, Lori (Mark) Wilhelm and Todd T. (Tina) Vollrath; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Sidney; one sister, Jeanette Darby, LaPorte; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mr. Vollrath in death were four sisters and five brothers.

Mr. Vollrath had worked at Allis-Chalmers for 42 years and retired as production superintendent. He had been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church all of his life and served on the church council, as vice-president of the congregation, as an Elder, was a chairman of the Senior Group, was a Sunday school volunteer for many years and was a Vacation Bible School volunteer for 10 years.

Mr. Vollrath was a member of the Allis-Chalmers Retirement Group and had been a nursing home volunteer, leading Bible studies. He also volunteered for the second grade at St. John's Lutheran School. He was in the Walther League Chorus for 70 years and loved playing the piano.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church, designated either to the General Fund or to the Radio Broadcast Fund.
