The Lord called Marvelyn Joyce Alderman home on Monday, May 23, 2016, 11 days after her 85th birthday.
She grew up in Onaka, South Dakota with her parents, Ellis and Hazel (Stevenson) Forby, two sweet sisters - Darlene (Dick) Koerlin and Lorelie Joy (Jerry) Chadwick, and two dear brothers - Gerald (Mavis) and Willis (Mabel) Forby, and several cousins who were VERY special to her.
Marvelyn loved to read (especially about Laura Ingalls Wilder and Anne of Green Gables) and also loved to sing. Her first and second families sang quartets together at home and in church. Memories of it remind us of the song "Daddy sang bass, Mama sang tenor" while me and my brothers just joined right in there.
She was a devoted wife to two husbands who preceded her in death, a wonderful mother to Robin (John) Grossl and four sons from her first marriage, Rick (Becky), Randy (Deborah), Rodney (Patty) and Rusty Meadors. She also had three stepchildren in her second marriage, Mark and Brian Alderman, and Donna (Dan) McKeown, and many grand and great- grandchildren.
Marvelyn enjoyed teaching, taught Sunday school for many years, and held a weekly Joy Club in her home to share Jesus' love and power with the children in the Central Ohio town where she lived for over 20 years during her first marriage. All through her life, she enjoyed needle work of all kinds. She always helped others as much as she could and regularly welcomed missionaries into her home who were in the states on furlough, also her children's school mates who needed a place to stay or just to play. Later in her life, she held regular game nights in her home for friends and those who were weary and life worn, to make their way a little brighter and lighter. She was deeply loved and blessed by all who knew her.
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, June 12th at 1 pm (CST) at the Galena Baptist Church, 1748 E. 1000 N., La Porte, IN 46350.
A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center who is handling the arrangements for the memorial service. Interment will take place at a later date in her home state of South Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family, c/o Rick Meadors, 2900 Monroe St., La Porte, IN 46350 or to Hamilton Grove Foundation, PO Box 819, Goshen, IN 46527-0819. For nearly the past two years, the caring folks at Hamilton Grove in New Carlisle, Indiana were wonderful caregivers for Marvelyn.
