Mary Coffeen

May 15, 1932 — November 4, 2012

Mary Marjorie Coffeen of LaPorte, Indiana passed away in Westville on Sunday, November 4 at the age of 80.

Marj was born on May 15, 1932 in Winchester, Indiana to Ennis Avery and Mary Elizabeth (Wigmore) Gulley.

She grew up in Winchester with two brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Winchester High School and later in life received a business certificate from Commonwealth Business College in LaPorte, Indiana. She had various occupations throughout her life such as homemaker, secretary, bartender and deli clerk.

She loved to sew and play cards. Her fried chicken and apple pie will be missed. She had a flare for style and sewed several of her own outfits and always had a matching scarf to cover her hair. Marj had the ability to go with the flow and adapt to anything life threw at her. She lived overseas in Switzerland for a time and also North Carolina for a while. As retirement neared she camped at Indian Lakes Camp Ground for half of the year with her family. She made many friends there, took several trips to Shipshewana and the flea market, ate the fish her brothers caught (Labor Day Weekend fish fry every year), sunbathed with her family and girlfriends, played various card games, sat around endless campfires and ate a ton of smores. She spent the other half of the year in LaPorte and Cambridge Square was her last residence where she made more friends and continued to play cards with the girls. She had quite a personality and obtained nicknames such as Marjorie Morning Star, Hollywood, and Sassy. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Robert Eugene Holdeman and Jack Dale Coffeen; her parents; one brother Frederick Richard Gulley; and one sister Janet Spear.
