Mary Laymon

Mary Ruth Laymon, 97, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Avalon Springs Health Campus.

Mary was born in Plymouth, IN, on October 25, 1926, to Alfred and Gertrude (Poor) Dolohery.

On November 4, 1949 in La Porte, IN, she married Robert Laymon, who preceded her in death. Surviving Mary are her children, Robert (Carrie) Laymon, Patrick (Carla) Laymon, John (Anne) Laymon, Catherine Messman, and Steve (Beth) Shank; grandchildren, Sarah (Howard) Schenck, Robert (Allison) Clark, Abigail (Jonathon) Stickford, Darcey Laymon, Kyle Anne Laymon, and Jeffery (Tiffany) Shank; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Evan and Grace Anne Nelson and Matilda and August Stickford; sister, Joan Kammler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-in-law, Richard Messman; sisters, Margaret Hamilton, Patricia Thate, and Sharon Conley; and brother, Alfred Dolohery.

Mary was a bookkeeper for 25 years at Russell's Clothing Store. She was a member of PhiWives. Mary was a voracious reader, who loved to travel and visit with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for her delicious Italian beef and Christmas cookies.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

A time of visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Inurnment at Pine Lake Cemetery will take place at a later date.
