Mary Ruth Shallenberger, 44, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Hospice Franciscan Communities in Michigan City with her loving family by her side.
Mary was born on July 23, 1973 in Wabash, IN to Nancy Babb.
Surviving are her beloved mother, Nancy Babb; special friend, Barb Lindgren; brother, Jerry Shallenberger (Karen); sister, Amie Shallenberger (Wendell); grandfather, William Babb, II; many aunts, uncles, and cousins, especially the three that lived at "John & Rhonda's group home"; her ADEC family that she lived with for the last 18 years; and Jeanna who made Mary's last days so much easier.
She was preceded by her grandmothers, Mary Babb and Sharlot Shallenberger.
Mary had a very unique sense of humor. Whether it was intentional or not, she had a way to "leave 'em laughing".
Some of Mary's favorite things were vacuum cleaners, weed eaters, lawn mowers, Mountain Dew, balloons, and her special friend, "Kiki", her mom's cat. Mary was attracted to men. Those that knew her well, also knew to "beware"! Mary was very special to all that knew her and lived life fully all the way to the end, never complaining and always smiling.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 pm (CST) on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, with her Uncle William Babb III officiating. Burial will take place in Marion, IN, on Saturday, November 18, 2017.
A time of visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
