Mary Frances Terzino, 77, died June 20, 2023. She was born December 15, 1945 to Dorothy and Frank Ullrich of Mount Clemens, Michigan.
A journalism graduate of Michigan State University, she began her career as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. Later, she moved into financial communications at the Northern Trust Company and First National Bank of Chicago, retiring in 1995 as senior vice president of Harris Bank. At Harris, she was responsible for all advertising and public relations functions, including public communications, stockholder and employee relations, marketing and community activities.
Mrs. Terzino then moved from Chicago to her weekend home in Long Beach, Indiana. It was there she met architect Herman Terzino of La Porte. The two were married on December 17, 1995. The marriage succeeded happily until Herman’s death 16 years later.
In La Porte, she worked for the Herald Argus as author of the popular column “About Town”. She often remarked that the column, which consistently won first place honors in statewide competition, was the most fun in a long writing career.
Mary had no family, but was fortunate to have treasured friends in the Jim and Liz Biernacki family of La Porte, Gail Purnell of La Porte, Jean Rudolph of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Sally Lagman of South San Francisco, California.
Arrangements are in the capable hands of Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center of La Porte. Inurnment will be in the La Porte Presbyterian Church columbarium.
