Mattie L. McAfee, age 77, of LaPorte, IN passed away peacfully in her home at 7:00 AM on Saturday, May 26, 2012. She was born the daughter of the late Allie A. & Lillie M. (Minor) Garey in Tyronza, AR on February 24, 1935. On April 17, 1952 she married Jimmy D. McAfee in Dyess, AR. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2007.
She is survived by two sons, Garey D. (Jill) McAfee of LaPorte & James T. (Juanita) McAfee of Plymouth; one daughter, Dorinda L. (Paul) Kreamer of La Porte; five grandchildren, Angela, Paul, Steven, Nancy and Shawn; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Barbara J. Glover of Knox, IN, and Mildred D. Hunter of Newyark, Ark.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers, Edward, Homer, Louis, Allen and Billy Garey; twin sister, Mary Sue Robertson, a sister, Hattie Seymore; and one granddaughter Jennifer Harmon.
She retired as a Lab Tech from American Rubber in 2000 after 36 years of service. She enjoyed reading and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
Mattie shared special moments with her family and friends in the time leading up to her passing. No public visitation or services are planned. A private family burial will take place at Pine Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
